The Jackson Public School District offers students a challenging, standards-based curriculum, based on the Mississippi Curriculum Frameworks and tightly aligned with national content standards and local, state, and national assessments. The JPS benchmarks and objectives represent what ALL students must know, and be able to do, in order to demonstrate proficiency within a specific grade level or course. These benchmarks and objectives are organized into pacing guides that reflect what teachers should teach and what students should master each nine-week term.
Students choose their own books and read them at their own pace. Both the student and the teacher get immediate, individualized, constructive feedback to direct ongoing reading practice.
